Choose Well.

“Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life.” – Deuteronomy 30:19-20

Even though my husband and I have been parents now for nearly nine years, some days it’s still hard to believe that we are responsible for two little people! If you have children, you know exactly what I mean. Many of my greatest joys come from being a mother. However, some of the most frustrating moments also occur when I am trying to teach our daughters the right way to live.

God’s Word gives me confidence and comfort, though, when I feel inadequate as a parent. In 2 Peter 1:3, it says, “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” The Lord promises to provide if I trust Him and believe what He says.

Every day I have to make the choice to put my faith in the Lord. According to Deuteronomy 30:19, God sets before us two different paths – one that results in blessings and life, the other curses and death. He doesn’t force us in any direction. Instead, He lets us decide which road to take.

In the same verse, God also says, “Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.” Did you see that? Parents, the choices we make affect our children. By following God and obeying His commands, you are transferring blessing and favor and LIFE for your children! This promise is for all of us, parents or not. God wants us to realize that our beliefs and actions touch everyone around us, especially the people in our homes.

When you love the Lord your God, listen to His voice, and hold fast to Him, you’re not only blessed but also you give others the chance to experience the overflow of your obedience. Today, remember that your decisions do make a difference. Therefore, in everything you do, choose well. Choose life.

Lord God, you are my life! Today, and every day, I choose to obey your commands and submit to your authority. Strengthen me by the power of the Holy Spirit so that I can make wise choices and encourage others to follow you.
