"So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and petition, in fasting."
Daniel 9:3
It's Day 1, and your motivation level is off the charts. You are READY. You're excited to see what God is going to do over the next 21 days. You've loaded up on fruit and vegetables, visited the health food store to buy rice milk, and are still trying to decide whether or not you are even going to attempt tofu.
For some of you, this whole fasting thing is uncharted territory, and you feel slightly lost. But, that's a good thing. You'll have to lean on the Lord instead of trying to do this fast in your own strength.
You have SET your mind to seek the Lord, and He promises to reward you for putting your faith in Him (Hebrews 11:6). He will show you the way to go, one step at a time.
As we begin this journey together, I pray that God will overwhelm you with His goodness and love. The time you spend in prayer is not in vain. As soon as you voice your requests, the Lord is already at work. Be encouraged, and do not listen to the enemy whispering, "You can't do this. You'll never make it."
The truth is that God has called you to this fast, and He will complete the good work He has started in you (Philippians 1:6). So now, my fasting friends, it's time for us to GO forward in prayer, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and celebrate what God is going to do.

Tonight at dinner, my husband gave me a great idea.
Some of you may already know that I have written a cookbook. However, it has been on hold for more than a year, and I've been waiting for God's direction on whether or not to publish it at all. I have more than 75 vegetarian recipes that could come in pretty handy over the next 21 days. So, I dusted off my cookbook to revisit some of my old favorites.
Then, Justin told me I should post my recipes to help people during this fast (I knew this man was a gift from God!) So, to honor my discerning husband and to convince your taste buds that healthy food is good food, I'm going to post recipes for you each day, starting tomorrow.
To the right of this post, there will be a poll for each of the recipes. All I ask if that you help me out by rating the dishes you try. Your feedback will be extremely helpful to me in deciding which ones are winners and which need to be tossed into the circular file. And, be honest! Give me any suggestions or tips as well.
The last thing I want is for you to get frustrated and give up because you don't know what to do with all those beans, vegetables, nuts, and seeds that you just bought at the store. I hope the recipes I post here make your 21-day journey tastier that you ever thought it could be.
I'm proud of you for stepping up to this challenge. You can do it! Check back tomorrow for recipe #1!

Kristen I think it's so neat that you have taken this fast as an opportunity to sow into the lives of those of us who are in uncharted territory. I will be watching for those recipes!Heidi Miller
